NFM Production is proud to have received the SA8000 certification of compliance which is a part of our vision for structured sustainable development. We care about our people and great working conditions. Being transparent is very important for us.

What is SA8000?

SA8000 is a standard certification program that provides a method for any organisation to conduct business in a way that is fair and decent. It is an internationally recognised standard that creates a platform for a business to implement or improve workplace conditions and workers' rights.Included in the SA8000 certification are nine areas where the performance of an organization is measured;child labour, forced and compulsory labour, health and safety, free association and collective bargaining, discrimination, disciplinary practices, working hours and compensation/remuneration and continuous improvement of this system. These areas are considered vital for social accountability, and human rights practices among other international standards.

What has NFM done to achieve this certification?

NFM thoroughly checked the available standards of social audits, most of which last three audit days. A study was initiated to locate the best certification for individual standards and SA8000 was chosen.SA8000 is one of the highest-ranking certificates and also has the longest audit of any available (certification took nine audit days). Then we started preparation:

  • Set new processes for child remuneration and grievances
  • Prepared risk analyses for different processes
  • Integrated the continuous improvement process into existing ISO 9001 procedures
  • Trained our entire staff, from the warehouse to senior management
  • Improvements in the health and safety area were completed
  • Created a new body Social Management Team which oversees the system

What will NFM do to maintain this certification?

Our work on the systems is continuous. As it is a management system, we need to continuously improve it, internally audit it, work with non-conformities, report for the annual management review and improve risk assessment for us and our supply chain. If there will be any supplier which does not commit to our values, then it is too great a risk for decent working conditions and for our reputation and will not be chosen. We will work with our supply chain to improve their social conditions through audits and training. We will also monitor and perform follow–up audit controls alternately every six months and will continue to focus on improving possible factors for the re-certification audit.
